Guest Author Libby Drew: Interview

Let's welcome Libby Drew to the site. She's talking about her new paranormal book, 40 Souls to Keep and the genre we all love!

To celebrate her new release, she is giving a free copy of 40 Souls to Keep AND Beneath Lake Redemption (I forgot about the other book during our opening giveaway. My forgetfulness is your bonus!) Please leave your name and email address to be entered into the contest.

Without, further ado, here's Libby:

Is 40 Souls to Keep your first paranormal?

Nope. I’ve written two other paranormal stories. State of Mind, a mystery/thriller, is about a group of people with telekinetic powers. In Beneath Lake Redemption, a reporter sets out to disprove that ghosts haunt the ruins of a flooded town. I write erotic romance as well, but I have to admit I’m partial to paranormals.

Why do you love the paranormal genre?

That’s hard to explain. The term paranormal encompasses so much. I think I enjoy the mystical aspect the most. I don’t usually try to explain why so-called unbelievable things happen. I’d rather explore how they affect and change us. How they scare us. And how they save us.

Saving people is an overriding theme in 40 Souls to Keep. Is that what you mean?

Yes. There’s a higher force at work in 40 Souls to Keep.  I never name it because the focus of the story is not that the characters have special powers, but rather how they choose to exploit them. The book relies heavily on the idea of fate… and just how the universe might ensure certain things turn out the way they should.

So you believe in all this paranormal stuff?

Let’s just say I’ve seen some things over the course of my life that have made me a more open-minded person.

What are you working on now?

Two things. One is a collaboration with Diana Copland (author of A Reason to Believe) and G.B. Lindsey. It’s tentatively titled Neverwood, and it’s about three foster brothers who return to the mansion of their youth. One man faces the specter of first love, while another believes past failures will haunt him forever. The third fears honest emotion is beyond his reach. On the path to true brotherhood, they discover the old mansion holds more than dusty furniture and secret passageways. A ghost walks its halls! I’m very excited about it. It’s primarily an erotic romance, but with a paranormal aspect. Working with Diana and G.B. has been an amazing experience.

The second novel is a mishmash of genres. There’s time travel, a murder mystery, romance, suspense, true love… Every time I sit down to the manuscript, it’s an adventure.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us.

The pleasure’s all mine. Thank you for creating the site and putting my favorite genre in the spotlight. It’s comforting to know one-stop shopping is now available when I’m looking for a good paranormal read.

Libby's Bio:

Libby glimpsed her true calling when her first story, a Winnie-the-Pooh/Shakespeare crossover, won the grand prize in her elementary school's fiction contest. Her parents explained that writers were quirky, poor, and often talked to themselves in supermarket checkout lines. They implored her to be practical, a request she took to heart for twenty years, earning two degrees, a white-collar job, and an ulcer, before realizing that practical was absolutely no fun.

Today she lives with her husband and four children in an old, impractical house and writes stories about redemption, the paranormal, and love at first sight, all of which do exist. She happens to know from experience. Libby’s first novel, State of Mind, was nominated for 2011 M/M Book of the Year by Authors After Dark.
